‘One in 4 people experience some form of mental health problem in any one year’
‘The cost to the UK economy is estimated to be £26 billion.’
In certain sectors, there are higher levels of turnover and ‘burn out’ as people find the pressures of work too much to cope with.
‘If you look after your staff they will look after your customers’ Richard Branson
Many companies are taking these issues seriously and have wellbeing strategies in place. They may offer discounted gym memberships, run yoga sessions or encourage walking. They may have leisure facilities within the office environment too like table tennis tables or pinball machines. All these play a great role. One thing that is missing in all of this is the power of art to offer an out let, a release, a form of self expression. Using art focuses more on the mental and emotional wellbeing of a person.
‘there is a growing realisation that the mental wellbeing of staff is just as important in ensuring that they are happy and content within their jobs, and I expect this to be one of the key issues in the workplace over the next 12 months.’ Dylan Jones Evans, Western Mail, Jan 5th 2018
Art within health care settings is showing to have enormous benefits – not only for people suffering from mental health issues but also physical issues. Just imagine the impact it can have within a stressful work environment.
‘Creative activity has long been known to have tangible effects on health and quality of life. The arts, creativity and the imagination are agents of wellness: they help keep the individual resilient, aid recovery and foster a flourishing society.’ Charter for Arts, health and wellbeing
Art also has an amazing power to heal. People who have suffered personal loss: this might be the death of a loved one, a miscarriage, a life changing medical diagnosis, or a relationship breakdown often suffer in silence. They may have the ‘allocated time off work’ but when they return they are often far from fit and unlikely to be operating as they did before the event. One to one art sessions can be particularly useful in these situations.
On a personal note art was the only thing that helped me deal with a close family bereavement. It continues to be my crutch, my sanctuary, when life becomes challenging. Art is how I ‘make lemonade’ when life throws me lemons. This is the big ‘why’ behind Art Box. I know how powerful art can be and how valuable it is to wellbeing.
‘Art Box’ allows you to promote wellbeing in your company through art.
‘art can raise the spirits and strengthen the soul, it can help us make sense of our surroundings and it can fundamentally affect and change an individual’
How does it work?
We bring art and craft materials to your workplace and show people easy ways for people to make art. Activities include: drawing, abstract painting, decorating frames and boxes, mono-printing and more. People work individually within a group environment- creating whatever they want, expressing themselves through materials without the need to explain what or why, releasing tension and connecting to that inner creative child with no responsibility and complete freedom.
Weekly sessions on an easy drop-in basis to suit the needs of your business.
You can also use ‘Art Box’ to create a piece of art work for your office
Not only will you have an original piece of art for your wall your staff will take great pride in the fact that they created it. The process of creation helps people relax, come together and build relationships too. No previous art experience is required as our Art facilitator will teach people all they need to know about paint and colour mixing to help them create a piece that ‘works’ aesthetically.
